Crazy Cat Lady

I have a few confessions to make. First of all, the thought of having a baby girl somewhat scares me. Why? Because I’m afraid she will grow into a girly girl and I won’t know what to do with her. Growing up, I preferred stuffed animals to dolls, real animals to babies and sports to playing dress-up. I never admired princesses, nor did I dream of my wedding day. In fact, confession number two, I always assumed I would be a crazy cat lady. And I was completely okay with that.

When I saw this photo on Pinterest today, I couldn’t help but laugh…and be a slight bit jealous. Instead of dreaming of one day living in a mansion with my prince charming, I would envision a house full of cats. In an answer to my parents’ prayers (and concerns), Matt came along and saved me from myself…though I did get him to agree to two house cats (a serious compromise). Now, over a decade later, we have talked about finding new homes for the two we do have since a good friend has serious cat allergies. While some days I am on board, at other times I find it hard to imagine not having a feline in the house.

It is funny how life can take you in a different direction than you ever anticipated. Did I think I’d be married at 20? Absolutely not. Did I think I’d have 3 kids, a house with a white picket fence and a minivan in the garage? Probably not. But here I am, 2.5 kids, 2 cats and 1 incredible husband later. So even though I won’t be ordering a Crazy Cat Lady Organizer anytime soon and I may be finding a new home for the two cats I do have, I must say that things have turned out all right. And perhaps having a girl isn’t that bad. After all, Kenna is quite the animal lover.
